In reply to your letter of the 1st instant giving the names of ship masters who would be able to support your statements regarding the Shipping aster at Hong Yong and enclosing a cutting from the "elbourne Age" I am directed by the Board of Trade to state that they propose to send a copy of your letter to the Colonial Office for the confidential information of the Governor of Hong Kong.
I am at the same time to return the newspaper cut- ting which does not appear to have any direct bearing upon the action of the Hong Kong Shipping 'aster.

With reference to the suggestion that you should call at this office, the Board desire me to say that they could not make use of a verbal statement and that therefore it is not necessary for them to trouble you to call.
